Our specialty
BMI is an Atlanta-based public affairs firm.
Our firm specializes in communicating political, economic
and social issues. We help enable companies to be
proactive – put issues onto the public agenda and change
the policy environment to facilitate the achievements of
the company’s goals.
Our past projects include an awareness-raising campaign
targeted at a class of Department of Transportation
vendors, an advocacy initiative to increase the cigarette
tax in the State of Georgia, and a public education
initiative – in collaboration with the Congressional Black
Caucus.
Our experience
We are experienced in 8 different industry areas:
transportation, environment, financial services, homeland
security, healthcare, technology, multicultural, and
community development.
Our communications teams are selected from different
industry groups to match agency strengths with client
needs.
Our expertise ranges from day-to-day work on strategic
publications to extensive grassroots activities across the
nation. From speechwriting and coalition building to
issues management and direct advocacy, the BMI team has
the experience and capabilities to assist our clients by
influencing critical policy decisions at the federal,
state and local levels.
Our professionals have been recruited from the private and
public sector. They have experience ranging from political
campaigns, coalition building, and grassroots
mobilization, to developing and managing media and public
relations programs for corporations and trade
associations.
Our approach
We work together, drawing on our collective know-how to
develop programs that are tailored to the unique
characteristics of each individual constituent group and
interest.
We know and work with legislators and their staffs at the
federal, state and local level and with representatives of
the Democratic and Republican Committees. We understand
how our clients' operations can be affected by legislative
or regulatory actions — and how employees, stakeholders,
customers, and other potential allies can be mobilized as
powerful political tools.
By employing public relations, government relations and
grassroots activities to influence public policy and
legislation, we have achieved results for corporations,
associations, nonprofit organizations, and government
agencies. We have handled some of the most challenging
public policy issues.
Our public affairs team has directed and implemented
grassroots projects across the nation. We regularly
contract with an experienced cadre of politically
connected, on-the-ground consultants who are equally
committed to bringing quality and results to our clients.
CORE CAPABILITIES
- Issues Management—Whether an issue is hot or
just heating up, building goodwill and understanding is
the best way to protect reputations.
- Legislative/Regulatory Counsel—The success of
a communications campaign in legislative and regulatory
arenas often requires access to leaders—from city
council members to federal officials, commissioners to
members of the Cabinet.
- Ally Development—The most powerful and
credible alliances come from uniting independent
entities that share a stake in an issue's
outcome—without sacrificing individual voices or
autonomy.
- Crisis Management—The moment a volatile issue
develops, it must be seized, analyzed and understood so
a successful strategy can emerge to capitalize on
opportunity or steer clear of rough waters.
- Grassroots Advocacy—Even when a battle wages
on national, international or global fronts, the
solution is almost always local. Winning political
support from the bottom up requires educating and
activating constituencies.
- Litigation Support—High-profile litigation,
regardless of the outcome, can affect public policy
decisions. Managing the communications environment
surrounding litigation creates opportunities to shape
balanced, fair perceptions and attitudes.
